Sunrise in Boone on January 24th

It was 11 below zero this morning on top of Rich Mountain above Boone.  At 4800 feet elevation you can see the skyline of Winston-Salem in the right conditions.  It’s an austere beauty in such uncharacteristically cold temperatures.  Yet the cold clear mountain dawn was magnificent and another unexpected reward for living in the North Carolina high country.

About Bob de Camara

I've been an aficionado of the high country since arriving from Chicago 20 years ago. The beauty blossoms in the contrast! Second only to my affection for the mountains is my enjoyment of sharing their magic with friends.
