Happy Birthday to my dad, Bob de Camara! He started this business so long ago he can’t even remember how long he’s been in real estate. Today he turned 60 years old so please feel free to give him a hard time
We love you, Dad!
This turtle was crossing the main road in Powder Horn this morning. He must have known about the great listing I was getting ready to take! Check back soon on our “New Listings” section above. Have a great weekend!
When Sharon’s traveling I end up with Kitty Cane Cat (Aiden) and Alex Dane Dog (Alex). Sharon selected their parenthetical names; I invented their real ones, much to her chagrin. But we have fun and they add depth to our lives. And although they’re both females, is it any wonder that the smaller one’s in charge!
She could tell you what they are. I just know they’re pretty, plentiful and she loves them. They make her happy which makes me glad. They remind me how fleeting are seasons and time itself and to appreciate the gifts we have in life like those we love.
Over the weekend a good friend of mine came up to the mountains from Chapel Hill. We enjoyed a great day of rock climbing and then hiked up the Rough Ridge Trail to soak in the amazing views of the gorge. Here are a few shots from Sunday evening. To find out more information about hiking the Rough Ridge Trail, check out Explore Boone Area’s article on Rough Ridge. Next time you’re up in Boone or Blowing Rock be sure to give this trail a try!
Yesterday we decided to put some good privacy screen up at matts house in Blowing Rock, NC. We chose Leyland Cypress as a good natural barrier. These are the dark green plants you see every 10 feet in the foreground. Sharon and I planted these 5 years ago at her mom’s house and they are 20 feet tall now. I love planting flowers bushes and trees in the mountains. Isn’t it always such a pleasure to watch things grow!
Today dad and I are pricing lots in Laurel Ridge, one of the High Country’s most exquisite neighborhoods. You’ll love the views from this lot! Give us a call today if you want to escape the heat and enjoy mountain views like this.
Here’s the view this morning over Boone public golf course. I could walk home from the spot and my office is way before the first mountain. I enjoy a beautiful 3 minute commute to work. we moved here from Chicago 20 years ago for this kind of quality of life. and we have enjoyed every minute of it. I guess the truth is the fact that my 28 year old son has returned to Boone to work with me in the real estate business and enjoy living in the mountains. Come on up to the mountains stop in and visit us.
One of the great things about Boone, NC is the weather. Living here you get to enjoy all 4 distinct seasons. I took these photos yesterday afternoon within 30 minutes of each other, only 15 miles apart. The key is the elevation change. With Boone being around 3300 ft elevation, Wilkesboro drops off sharply coming in at roughly 1000 ft elevation. It’s amazing how different the weather can be off the mountain! So this summer when it’s scorching in the piedmont come on up to the High Country and enjoy the cool mountain weather of Boone, NC!
Welcome Ansley Alison to Earth! Aren’t you precious! Sharon got a call Sunday night around two in the morning that the baby was coming and twenty minutes later was in the car on a six hour drive to Atlanta. Fifteen minutes after arriving Ansley was born 5 lbs 5 ozs! Don’t we have someone to spoil now!
Surprise! It was my 28 year old son, Matt’s idea to surprise his sister, Page who lives in Boston. So last Friday he, Sara, Sharon and I flew to Boston to do so. You could have stopped time with the look on her face when she walked into the restaurant and saw us! The entire weekend was priceless. How many times does your daughter turn 30 and you get the chance to honor her for who she is! (L to R, Ray, Page, me, Sharon, Matt and Sara)
The morning sky was filled with ominous mood today. At 16 degrees it was cold and blustery. The high country clouds are what caught my attention though. Filled with such somber portent, it touched something inside me. The beauty of the clouds in Boone and Blowing Rock are that the sky is rarely static for long. They are part of the sensory feast we enjoy every day in the high country. The day ended brilliantly sunny and left me ineffably grateful for the immeasurable good fortune of living in the mountains.
Here is a beautiful old sycamore tree upturned near the Holston River outside of Damascus ,Virginia. Look at the massive root system on the tree and just how tall and wide it is. It’s a reminder how even the tallest and strongest are subject to the vicissitudes of nature. For me it touches on mortality and the human condition and why we should treasure each and every day of life for the precious gift that it is. And that’s why twenty years ago we made the decision as a family with five small children to move to the high country for the quality of life. And each day that I awaken to the fresh forest fragrance of the Blue Ridge Mountains I am grateful for the gift of living in Boone, NC!
Here’s what it looked like leaving Sunday. Can’t wait to go back this weekend with Kitty Kane Cat and Alex Dane Dog. After a week of selling real estate in Boone it’s good to go back to the farm!
Here we are – Matt My son, His good friends, Case Lambert, Erich Purpur art the Carolina Hurricane’s hockey game Friday night.
Matt piloting our newest bird into our heliport. This is what we do when we’re not selling real estate in Boone or Blowing Rock, NC.
I had to get home early and get the wood stove working for the big snow storm tonight! We haven’t seen as much snow as we used to but it makes it that much better when it comes!
Here’s to a safe and warm 2013. Happy New Years from Boone Real Estate.
Here we are at Sharon’s farm in Virginia cutting firewood to get ready for old man winter. It’s fun to get outside in the elements and work on the farm. Fresh air, hard work and something to show for it at the end of the day! We cut and split a few cords of wood for my new wood stove insert. I’m installing the insert in my house on Fox Den Rd in Blowing Rock, NC. I looking forward to saving some money on propane this year!
Sit back and get ready to take it all in. The New River in Todd, NC is one of the many beautiful locations in the High Country. Thanks for watching
Happy Halloween to all of you! If you’re going trick or treatin’ tonight you better bundle up! Have a spooky good evening.
