Matt and I took a nice hike this morning down to Gragg Prong Falls down below the Blue Ridge Parkway below Linville. It was majestic with the sun rising projecting slanting, golden light on the time-smoothed, granite slabs surrounding this water hole. There’s nothing like spending a morning in the mountains in May!
Spring is in the offing in the High Country! A few days ago I went down to the Edgemont area just below Hwy 221 south of Blowing Rock. Once you drop down below the escarpment you will find massive creeks and mountain streams flowing all the way down to Lake James. Here are a few photos of Wilson Creek!
Yesterday we had the biggest snow of the season with a range of probably 4-8 inches in the High Country! It’s always a treat to get a big snow and it’s an even bigger treat to go out and play in it! The four seasons are one reason folks like living here and winter is no exception. While it doesn’t look like we’ll get anymore snow this week, the temperature will take a dive and we’ll dip below 0 degrees in the next day or two. Yikes!! This weather is great for the skiing so if you’re thinking about making a trip, come on up this weekend for great conditions and enjoy the most snow of the season!
One of the nicest things about living in Boone is the ability to drive just a few minutes and find yourself at a beautiful spot like this. Sara and I took Dinah for a walk the other night at Bass Lake in Blowing Rock. It was more like ice skating than walking but it was still fun! It’s so refreshing to be in the mountains in the Winter. It was cold on the lake but it was such a pleasant evening.
It was beautiful seeing the snowflakes once again falling on our winter wonderland! It always stuns me to realize what an enchanting universe we enjoy living up here in the mountains. Invigorating is perhaps the appropriate expression to describe winter’s first snow. Stately hardwood trees, scent of wood in the air and woodsmoke curling up the chimneys, a crisp snap in the air and brilliantly blue skies all tell me that the most beautiful time of year is upon us. Come marvel at the majesty with us – come to the mountains!
Fall is my favorite time of year. It’s such a cool feeling to be outside with friends around a campfire in the brisk, mountain air. Let’s try to enjoy these mild temperatures while they last!
Good morning ASU! Here the sun acts as a natural alarm clock attempting to wake the students up at 7:00am. Good morning Boone, NC!

It’s a beautiful time of year to be in the High Country. Here’s a shot of the Boone Golf Club (hole 9) with a gorgeous sunset. It really doesn’t get any better than this! With temps in the low 70’s for the past week there’s no place I’d rather be.
What a fantastic weekend for fireworks! Big booms were going off everywhere including Tweetsie, the Bethel Blast and Linville Ridge just to name a few magnificent displays. Here are a few photos I snapped of our own fireworks show after a full day of rock climbing. What incredible weather we had on the 4th – low 70’s! I hope you’ve enjoyed your weekend in the High Country and we hope to show you some property soon!

It was a gorgeous day in Boone today with temperatures in the low 70’s. On a day like this it’s impossible to resist the driving range so close to the office! Here’s dad teeing off with the new 3 wood! Hopefully we’ll be able to get on the golf course a little more this year. Cheers!
The flowers at Sharon’s farm are emerging in full spring glory. Here’s a wave of daffodils. Last December I planted 1000 more which are just breaking ground. The forsythia are beginning to riot as we’ll. What a bounty this time of year is – especially after the winter we’ve endured. Sharon says to say those daffodils are named “Ice Follies.”
