Watauga River Winds Around Valle Crucis

WataugaRiver-001I took this photo the other day in Valle Crucis, NC.  In this photo I was focusing on the small shelf on the river bed that creates a miniature waterfall.  What a beautiful time of year in Watauga County!  Spring has finally arrived and everywhere you look is such a vibrant collage of green.  It’s almost time to start floating down the river!

Beautiful Sunrise in Boone, NC

It is another beautiful morning in the high country!  6:27 am, 58°, and the sun about to peak through the first little leaflets emerging from our trees.  What an exquisite place to live!  I often pinch myself and wonder what I’ve done right in my life to deserve this.  Suffice it to say I am humbled and grateful for the privilege of enjoying this wonder.

Taking Pictures IN the Watauga River!

MattWataugaRiver-001

Here I am at 8:00am this morning in the middle of the Watauga River in Valle Crucis.  We strive to be creative in all aspects of our work and taking photos is no exception!  I even took a quick dip in the river after I got done shooting, talk about waking you up!

View From Rough Ridge – Blue Ridge Parkway

Over the weekend a good friend of mine came up to the mountains from Chapel Hill. We enjoyed a great day of rock climbing and then hiked up the Rough Ridge Trail to soak in the amazing views of the gorge. Here are a few shots from Sunday evening. To find out more information about hiking the Rough Ridge Trail, check out Explore Boone Area’s article on Rough Ridge.  Next time you’re up in Boone or Blowing Rock be sure to give this trail a try!

Planting Nine Leyland Cypress at Matts House

image

Yesterday we decided to put some good privacy screen up at matts house in Blowing Rock, NC.  We chose Leyland Cypress as a good natural barrier.  These are the dark green plants you see every 10 feet in the foreground.  Sharon and I planted these 5 years ago at her mom’s house and they are 20 feet tall  now.  I love planting flowers bushes and trees in the mountains.  Isn’t it always such a pleasure to watch things grow!

Dogwoods Blooming in Boone and Blowing Rock, NC

image

Dogwoods are reaching full bloom this week in the NC mountains.  This is our state flower/tree.  When in bloom this blossom is perhaps the most beautiful bloom of the spring.  By the time these beauties bloom the mountain weather is turning exotic and lovely.  I just thought I’d share one of my favorite sights.

Waterfall in my backyard today in Boone, NC

We’ve been having some heavy rains this week.  the mountains have become a cacophony of cascades.  It’s part of spring in the mountains and part of living in a temperate rainforest.  I just love the feeling of moist breezes on my cheek.  I love the sound of water falls below my bedroom window to fall to sleep with at night.  Boone and Blowing Rock, North Carolina are natural wonder lands that I’m so glad we live in.  Come visit us and see.

Spring Arrives in the High Country

Lordy, it’s gonna be in the 70s! Now that’s going straight from winter to summer but who’s complaining! I’m just happy to see the warm weather here at last in Boone, NC!

misty mountain morning in Boone and Blowing Rock NC

image

Its a quintessential spring morning in Boone in Blowing Rock North Carolina.  We probably had an inch of rain last night.  It seems like a perfect day to wander over to my girlfriends farm and burn piles of firewood.  There’s no day that’s a enjoyable to be outside in the fresh air in the mountains doing hard work.  Viva the mountains!
